Charles A. Quinn Sr.


Charles A. Quinn, Sr. 69 retired Chief of Police of Souderton Borough, died unexpectedly Tuesday, January 24, 2012. He was the husband of Anna Maria (Pasquali) Quinn, with whom he shared 44 years of marriage.

Born March 16, 1942 in Mount Airy he was a son of the late John Joseph and Julia Marie (Rodgers) Quinn. \

Charles was a 1960 graduate of Cardinal Dougherty High School in Philadelphia. After high school he enlisted in to the U.S. Navy and was stationed on the U.S.S. Randolph. After his military term, he worked for Standard Press Steel in Jenkintown, while waiting for an opening in the same line of work as his father, who was a Philadelphia policeman. He began his law enforcement career with the Ambler Police Dept. until moving to Souderton in 1971 and joined the Souderton Police Dept. Two years after joining he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. He was selected to serve as acting chief of the department in 1982, and was formally appointed Chief of Police on October 3, 1983. He received police training through the Pennsylvania State Police, Federal Bureau of Investigation and Federal Food & Drug Administration and had advanced training in the fields of narcotics investigation, drug control and crime prevention. He was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Police Montgomery County Lodge 14 where he served as past President in 1977 and was also a member of the American Legion Warren G. Royer Post 234, Souderton.

His family was the most important thing to him, especially being Pop Pop to his grandchildren who he enjoyed giving rides to on his scooter the "Red Rider"

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children Charles A. Quinn, Jr., Richard N. Quinn and his wife Danielle and Teresa M. Quinn, 6 grandchildren, Jacqueline, Kirstin, Mackenzie, Julia, Emily and Abigail, a sister Joan Quinn and a brother Barry Quinn. He was preceded in death by his brother John G. Quinn.

A viewing will be held from 6-9 pm on Tue. Jan. 31 at the Williams-Bergey-Koffel Funeral Home, Inc., 667 Harleysville Pike, Telford (Franconia Twp.) and again from 9-10 am on Wed. Feb. 1 at the funeral home. His Funeral Mass will be held at 11 am on Wed. at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 445 N. Main St., Sellersville, interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Plymouth Meeting.
