Gilbert R. CARLSON

 

Gilbert ‘Gil’ R. Carlson, Esq. of Gilbertsville, PA, 54, passed away at his home on Saturday, November 6, 2010, with his family by his side.

Gil earned his B.A. from Muhlenberg College in 1977, his M.S. from St. Joseph’s University in 1996, and his J.D., cum laude, from Widener University School of Law in 2001.  In law school, Gil was recognized as a Josiah Oliver Wolcott Fellow and served as a law clerk for former Delaware Supreme Court Justice Joseph T. Walsh. Gil also served for 21 years as an officer, sergeant and patrol commander for the Whitpain Township Police Department.

During his tenure, Sgt. Carlson helped implement a motorcycle patrol and assisted in the organization of the Montgomery County Salvation Army Law Enforcement Holiday Food Drive and the Blue Bell United States Cycling Federation Charity Bike Race.  He also served as an advisory board member for the Salvation Army in Norristown, PA.  

After retiring from the police force, Gil served as an Associate in the Corporate Department of Stradley Ronon Stevens & Young, Malvern, PA, prior to serving for the past six years as senior transactional counsel for IKON Office Solutions and Ricoh Americas, Malvern, PA.

Survived by his wife Donna M. Carlson; children David A. Carlson, SSGT/USMC and his wife D. Ashley Carlson of Bluffton, SC, Alyssa M. Carlson of Norristown, PA , and Samantha Sekula of Gilbertsville, PA; grandchildren Gavin A. Carlson and Mason L. Carlson of Bluffton, SC; mother Eva-Maria C. Carlson of Lower Gwynedd, PA, and father Robert E. Carlson, MD of Key West, FL; sisters Christine A. DeWitt of Johnson City, TN, and Lorin Carlson-Healy of Hastings, NY, and extended family and friends.  Gil will be remembered fondly for his love of family and friends, and passion for fast cars, motorcycles, martinis and cigars.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial service on Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at 1:00 p.m., with visitation on Tuesday morning from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Catagnus Funeral Home, 329 N. Lewis Road, Royersford, PA.
