Michael P. Karcewski

 

Michael P. Karcewski, of Audubon, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, September 24, 2008 in Montgomery Hospital of complications from diabetes and congestive heart failure. He was 74.

Mr. Karcewski was born July 19, 1934 in Norristown and was a son of the late Michael J. and Blanche (Pieczkolan) Karcewski. He graduated from St. Patrick's High School in Norristown in 1953 and worked for Norris Iron Works in Bridgeport for two to three years before enlisting in the United States Army, where he proudly served in Korea as a Military Police Officer for two years.  After being discharged from the Army, Mr. Karcewski worked for General Electric of King of Prussia before joining the Upper Merion Police Dept. in 1965, where he had a distinguished career as a Detective. He retired in 1996.  The day after his retirement from the Police Department, Mr. Karcewski went to work in Security Training at the King of Prussia Mall, where he proud ly mentored young people starting their careers. He continued there several days a week until two months ago, when his illness prevented him from working.

Mr. Karcewski was a member of Sacred Heart R.C. Church in Swedesburg, a church his family was one of the founding member in 1907. He was a member of the Holy Name Society in the Parish and the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge # 14. He loved deep-sea fishing and golf.  He was the husband of the late Mary (Welsh) Karcewski, who passed away May 17, 2007. They were married for 49 years and now they are together again.  Surviving are his six devoted sons: Thomas Karcewski, and his wife Margaret, Middletown, Md.; Brian Karcewski, and his wife Cindy, Eagle; Steven Karcewski, and his wife Ann, Spring City; Michael Karcewski, and his wife Samantha, Boyertown; Mark Karcewski, and his wife Laura, West Norriton; and Timothy Karcewski, Audubon; Grandchildren: Brian, Jr., Diana, Peter, Julia, Elizabeth, Matthew, Logan, Brandon and Eth an; Brother: Walter Karcewski, and his wife Loretta, Morrisdale; Sister: Joan Pasquale, Audubon; Aunt Jean and Uncle Phil Schmidt, Largo, FL.; Brother-in-law: Richard Welsh and sister-in-law Mary Lou, Norristown; Sister-in-law: Helen Welsh, Norristown; Godchildren: Ed Karcewski and Michele (Welsh) Lanzoni; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by an infant brother: Edward and brother-in-law Frank Welsh, Herb Hallman and Robert Pasquale Sr., and sister-in-law Nancy Hallman.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 29, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. in Sacred Heart R.C. Church, Jefferson St., Swedesburg. Interment will be in St. Augustine Cemetery, King of Prussia. Viewings for Mr. Karcewski will be held on Sunday Evening from 6:00 to 9:00 P.M. at the Bernard S. Gutkowski Funeral Home, Inc., 305 Jefferson St., Swedesburg, Upper Merion Twp. and on Monday morning from 8:30 to 9:50 A.M. at the Church.
